Hacienda Mérida

We decided to leave Altagracia and head to the southern side of Ometepe, two quick bus rides and we arrived in Mérida. Mérida is a very rural area with a rocky dirty barely paved road. The people were super nice in this community and we found this neat little place right on the water. The private rooms were all taken and the dorms cost 8 bucks a person whereas we could rent a tent with bedding materials for 4 bucks a person. We opted for the tent. It was really a beautiful place. The hacienda was kind of an Eco-tourism place, where they saved plastic bottles and filled them with plastic trash and made tables, seats, and even walls with them. The hacienda being a tourist kind of place had inflated prices for food, and there was a local right next door who offered her kitchen as a bit of a make shift restaurant. The food was dirt cheap, and super delicious! The meal filled both Ashley and I and cost something like 1.90 USD
